Our guide to lasting jewelllery
SIMAE pieces are designed to be worn, loved, and kept for a long time. With the right care, your jewellery can stay beautiful for years. A few simple habits will help protect the finish, preserve the stones, and keep your pieces looking their best.
Everyday Care
Jewellery should be the final touch to your outfit, not the first. Perfume, hairspray, lotions, sunscreen, and other beauty products can react with metals and stones. These products may cause silver to tarnish, gold plating to wear more quickly, or gemstones to lose their natural appearance
over time. We recommend applying any products first and allowing them to dry before putting on your jewellery.
Please remove your jewellery before exercising, swimming, bathing, cleaning, or doing any physical work. Chlorine, salt water, sweat, heat, and cleaning products can all affect the surface and finish of your
jewellery.
After wearing your pieces, gently wipe them with a soft, clean cloth to remove oils, moisture, and any residue from the skin.
Storing Your Jewellery
When you are not wearing your jewellery, store each piece separately to avoid scratching, tangling, or rubbing against other items. A clean, dry jewellery box or pouch is best. For silver pieces, storing them in an anti-tarnish pouch or box will help slow down natural tarnishing.
Avoid leaving jewellery in humid areas such as bathrooms, as moisture can speed up tarnishing.
Sterling Silver
Sterling silver naturally tarnishes over time, especially when exposed to air, moisture, perfume, and skin products. This is normal and can usually be improved with gentle cleaning.
To refresh your silver jewellery, use a soft polishing cloth made for silver. For a deeper clean, you may use a silver cleaning solution, but only dip the piece for a few seconds and rinse it thoroughly afterwards with warm soapy water. Dry completely with a soft, non-abrasive cloth.
Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, as these can scratch or damage the surface.
Gold Vermeil / Gold-Plated Jewellery
Gold vermeil and plated jewellery have a layer of gold over sterling silver. It can gradually wear over time, particularly on pieces that experience frequent contact, such as rings and bracelets.
To protect your jewellery, avoid wearing it while washing your hands, applying products or exercising. Store them separately and clean only with a soft, dry cloth.
Gemstones
Gemstones should be treated gently. Avoid contact with perfume, sunscreen, alcohol-based products, harsh chemicals, and extreme heat, as these may affect the colour and shine of certain stones.
To clean gemstones, use lukewarm water with a small amount of mild soap. Dip the stone briefly and use a very soft brush to remove any build-up around the setting. Do not to apply pressure to the stone or setting. Rinse well and dry thoroughly with a soft, non-abrasive cloth.
Never use harsh cleaners or ultrasonic cleaners unless they are suitable for that specific stone and setting.
A Final Note
Jewellery is delicate by nature. Wear it often, but treat it with care. The better you look after your SIMAE pieces, the longer they will keep their shine, shape, and character.
